THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Photography, Love, Storytelling & Creating.

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by!

I love meeting new people and learning about their stories. During the week I’m a busy gal with a passion for all things creative! I’m a Photographer, Graphic Designer and Digital Marketer (learn more about Graphic Design/Marketing HERE). I am living the dream.

I picked up my first camera in grade 7 and fell in love. I would take my camera to the woods and photograph nature for hours, looking for beautiful things and snapping away - no matter how small. I started my photography career in nature / wildlife photography but it wasn’t until 2018 I started taking portraits. Once I got started - I was hooked. I could then find all the little details that made my subject beautiful and highlight them.

I realized how much I love telling love stories and helping people see their true beauty. Every time a couple or family hires me I feel so honored I have the privilege to tell their story.

A couple of things about me:

  • I got married (!!!) in September of 2022 (so I totally understand the stress/excitement of wedding planning),

  • My husband and I have an adorable Border Collie/Australian Shepherd/Bernese Mountain dog mix dog. Her name is Ripley. She’s named after Ellen Ripley from Alien!

  • I spent most of my childhood dancing- competitively and alone in my room- lol

  • I love live music!  My husband Austin and I have seen 40+ shows of all genres from pop to rock, and to alternative concerts in other languages. Kiss, Weezer, Kim Petras, July Talk, Pup, Childish Gambino, The Lumineers, Vance Joy, Billie Eilish, Carly Ray Jepson, L'Impératrice, Kendrick Lamar, Jonas Brothers, Hilary Duff to name a few…

  • I have an obsession with house plants and I grow my own veggies in the summer! I’m totally down to trade props!

  • I grew up in Peterborough but I recently bought a home in Little Britain!

HOW I INTERACT WITH YOU WHILE I PHOTOGRAPH

I completely understand when I hear people say “Oh I hate having my photo taken”, “I never know what to do with my hands”, “I hate my left side”…the list goes on. Trust me, I’ve heard it all before. I make this same point on every page of my website because I hear it so frequently! Trust me, I understand. Getting in front of a lens and not knowing what’s happening or how you’re looking on the other side can be a little scary. When you’re the subject of my camera lens you can put your worries to rest. My goal is to create a safe space for my subject(s).  It doesn’t matter if I’m shooting a wedding or corporate headshots. Once my subject(s) feel comfortable, cracking jokes and being a little silly… that’s when the genuine smiles come out. It makes the world of difference. I will also look out for you, make sure there are no flyaway hairs, no crooked ties, no hair elastics… I will make sure that everything is in order. This is not your elementary school photoshoot.

What is my perfect day off?

Well, I haven't really thought of it but maybe you’ll find me:

Wake up at 9:00 am, get some last-minute snuggles with my pup, Ripley. 9:20 am, get up & dressed into something stretchy. Make an iced coffee with whipped cream along with my favourite breakfast food - chocolate chip pancakes. After breakfast (10:45 am) grab Ripley, my other half and my camera and find a cool trail nearby. After a long hike, I’ll grab a burger from our favourite food truck and devour it in my backyard. After a solid lunch, I’ll do some gardening, check up on our chickens and do maintenance on our veggie garden. Tacos for dinner, watch a little Criminal Minds on TV and goooooooood night (8:45pm).

Or, ya know, playing video games in bed all day. #TearsOfTheKingdom

FAQs

  • No way! I shoot products, nature, real estate and dogs!

During a wedding, I get all of the details. I know the amount of time, money and effort that goes into planning and designing a wedding. I get everything from your tablescapes, invitations, rings to any special detail that makes your wedding unique.

  • When I deliver image galleries, they are filled with coloured images and black and white. For my portfolio, I wanted to include only my absolute favourite images. For some reason, I always gravitate to black and white.

  • Oh heck yes. My first destination wedding was in Budapest, Hungary and I loved every minute of it! I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding in Newfoundland, Montreal, anywhere in Europe, Jamaica or even Australia! …If you’re thinking about getting married anywhere listed please reach out and make this photographer’s dream come true!

  • Oh heck yes. As long as the location allows pets, I’m all for it!

My Goal

My goal is to make you feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. Whether you are getting married, engagement photos, family photos or headshots. I approach everything with the same level of positive energy, creativity, empathy and professionalism.

My husband Jimmy and I have hired Alana for family photos and also for our own private sessions as well. Alana is professional and is a very talented photographer. She makes you feel comfortable and relaxed in your photo shoot. She has an amazing eye and provides some creative and unique pictures. She has captured many moments in time for us that can now last a lifetime through these photographs. We would highly recommend Alana to anyone and plan to continue to hire her in the years to come.
