How Much Does a Wedding Photographer Cost in Ontario?

Wedding photography pricing in Southern Ontario spans a wide range because “wedding photographer cost” is really a bundle of costs: time on the wedding day + experience + editing + deliverables + logistics (travel, assistants). Published pricing from multiple Southern Ontario studios shows everything from entry-level coverage around $1,500–$2,500, through mid-range full-day coverage around $3,000–$5,000, up to premium offerings starting $6,000+.

With my work, my published wedding packages currently run from $2,000 to $3,800 (before HST) for 4–10 hours of coverage, include a pre-wedding meeting, and deliver edited images through an online gallery plus a sneak peek slideshow. I require a 40% retainer, HST on all prices, and the option to add an additional photographer at $70/hour + HST.

Key pricing policies (these are the “fine print” couples should budget for):

  • HST: You explicitly note that all prices are subject to HST. (Ontario’s HST rate is 13%.)

  • Retainer: A 40% retainer is required to hold the date.

  • Additional time: Extra coverage is $350/hour.

  • Second photographer (additional photographer): You can add an additional photographer to any package for $70/hour + HST.

  • Travel: Your site notes that travel fees may apply and directs couples to contact you for details (important, because location can change the real total).

  • Pricing freshness: Pricing is subject to change, and I invite couples to contact me for up-to-date pricing.

Typical wedding photographer cost in Southern Ontario

A practical way to explain the market is to split it into three broad tiers:

Entry-level and budget-conscious coverage (often partial-day): It’s common to see photography start around $1,500–$2,500 for newer photographers or shorter coverage windows. One Southern Ontario studio’s own guide describes entry-level photographers in this range.

Mid-range “most common” full-day coverage: Multiple published price lists cluster around $3,000–$5,000 for experienced professionals, especially when couples want 6–10 hours and possibly a second shooter.
Examples of published pricing that land in this zone include:

  • One photography company lists Toronto wedding photography prices starting at $2,999, with a 6-hour package at $2,999 and 8-hour package at $3,899.

  • Another Photography Company lists wedding photography starting at $3,250, and notes inclusions like individually retouched images, an online gallery, timeline assistance, and album design.

  • Another Photography company publishes wedding collections from $2,350 (6 hours) to $3,150 (10 hours) and states that travel within Southern Ontario is included in every wedding collection (some studios bake travel in; others charge it separately).

Premium and luxury offerings: Packages can start at $5,200–$6,500+ when the product includes higher-touch creative direction, premium deliverables, multi-shooter teams, film/Super 8, or a brand positioned as luxury.

  • One Photography lists a 10-hour package starting at $5,200.

  • Another Photography lists wedding packages starting at $6,500 and explicitly includes analog film and higher-end options.

A helpful budgeting heuristic (without implying it’s a rule): Wedding planning guidance often suggests that photography + videography together can take ~10–12% of the total wedding budget.

If you pair that with WeddingWire’s reported average Canadian wedding cost of roughly $29,450, a 10–12% combined photo+video allocation would land around $2,945–$3,534. Which aligns with why many couples shopping mid-range photography alone end up around the low-to-mid $3,000s before add-ons.

What affects wedding photography cost

Hours of coverage (the single biggest lever). More hours generally means more shooting time and more files to back up, cull, and edit. Your own structure makes that clear: packages scale from 4 to 10 hours, and extra coverage is priced per hour.

Number of photographers (second shooter / additional photographer). A second photographer can solve real logistical problems—capturing both partners getting ready in different locations, covering cocktail hour while portraits happen, or getting multiple ceremony angles. Your site prices an additional photographer at $70/hour + HST, which makes this add-on easy for couples to model in a budget.
Other studios also foreground this lever: for example, Ten·2·Ten’s pricing page and multiple WeddingWire listings explicitly treat the second shooter as a differentiator across packages.

Experience and risk management. Industry guidance consistently frames pricing as a function of experience, reliability, and the ability to handle difficult light, fast timelines, and “one chance only” moments.
In practice, experienced photographers also invest in redundancy (backup bodies, lenses, lighting, storage, and workflow), which is part of what couples are purchasing when they choose a professional instead of the cheapest option.

Editing scope and deliverables. Couples often compare “hours” but forget to compare what’s delivered:

  • Edited digital images + online gallery: These are standard for many modern packages (including yours).

  • Engagement session inclusion: Your 6+ hour packages include engagement coverage (30 minutes or 1 hour depending on the package).

  • Albums/prints/wall art: Some studios include album design or printed products in the baseline; others price them separately. Geoff Shaw Photography, for example, describes album design as included in all wedding collections, while other photographers treat albums as optional upgrades.

Travel and logistics. Even when a photographer’s “price” looks competitive, travel can be the hidden swing factor—especially once you leave the core markets of Toronto and Hamilton and start booking rural venues or multi-location timelines.

Travel, destination weddings, and other location fees

My wedding portfolio page states that travel fees may apply - contact me for details.

My Travel policy:

  • Destination weddings require the couple to cover the photographer’s flight and accommodation.

  • For venues more than 1 hour away (home base is Little Britain / Port Perry), a travel fee applies based on kilometres traveled.

  • The couple provides the photographer’s meal, per contract.

  • If the photographer is driving more than 4 hours, the couple covers the photographer’s accommodations (depending on schedule. Contact me for details).

The Canada Revenue Agency prescribed per‑kilometre rate, which for 2026 is $0.73/km.

Budget examples with totals including travel

The goal of this is to turn a vague question (“how much does a wedding photographer cost in Southern Ontario?”) into something couples can actually budget for.

Assumptions used below (clearly labeled estimates so readers can swap their own numbers):

  • HST: 13% (Ontario).

  • Travel fee example rate: $0.73/km (benchmark based on 2026 CRA prescribed per‑km rate)

  • “Long-drive” example: 800 km round trip + 1 hotel night ($250).

  • “Destination” example: $800 flight + $600 hotel (placeholder—real costs vary by destination and length of stay).

  • Your package prices, add-ons, and retainer are taken from your wedding page.

Understanding wedding photography pricing in Southern Ontario can feel overwhelming, but most packages fall into three clear tiers based on experience, coverage, and deliverables. From budget-friendly options for shorter coverage to mid-range full-day packages and luxury offerings with premium add-ons, pricing is shaped by key factors like hours of coverage, second photographers, editing scope, and travel. By breaking down real examples and typical costs—including HST and travel fees—this guide helps couples move from guessing to confidently planning a photography budget that aligns with their priorities.
